چکیده

Abstract In Evidence theory, several conditioning rules for updating belief have been proposed, including Dempster’s rule of conditioning. The paper views the conditioning rules proposed so far and proposes a new rule of conditioning based on three requirements. Then, it generalizes the rule to be applied to the case where condition is given by an uncertain belief. The paper also discusses a few interpretations of an equation used for evidential reasoning, one of which is interpreted as conditioning with an uncertain condition. Keywords— Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence, evidence theory, conditioning rule, evidential reasoning, uncertainty.

Comprehensive Decision Modeling of Reverse Logistics System: A Multi-criteria Decision Making Model by using Hybrid Evidential Reasoning Approach and TOPSIS (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In the last two decades, product recovery systems have received increasing attention due to several reasons such as new governmental regulations and economic advantages. One of the most important activities of these systems is to assign returned products to suitable reverse manufacturing alternatives. Uncertainty of returned products in terms of quantity, quality, and time complicates the decis...

Subjective Evidential Reasoning

This paper describes a framework for combining and assessing subjective evidence from different sources. The approach is based on the DempsterShafer belief theory, but instead of using Dempster’s rule we introduce a new rule called the consensus operator that is based on statistical inference. We show how this framework can be applied to subjective evidential reasoning.

Reinterpreting arguments in dialogue: an application to evidential reasoning

This paper presents a formalisation of two typical legal dialogue moves in a formal dialogue game for argumentation. The moves concern two ways of reinterpreting a general rule used in an argument, viz. by ‘unpacking’ and ‘refining’ the rule. The moves can be made not only by the user but also by the attacker of the rule, in order to reveal new ways to attack it. The new dialogue game is illust...

Analysis and Synthesis Using the Fuzzy Rule-based Evidential Reasoning Approach

The main objective of this paper is to propose a framework for modelling, analysing and synthesizing system safety of engineering systems or projects on the basis of a generic rule-based inference methodology using the evidential reasoning (RIMER) approach. The framework is divided into two parts. The first one is for fuzzy rule-based safety estimation, referred to as a fuzzy rule-based evident...

Implementing Evidential Reasoning in Expert Systems

The Dempster-Shafer theory has been extended recently for its application to expert systems. However, implementing the extended D-S reasoning model in rule-based systems greatly complicates the task of generating informative explanations. By implementing GERTIS, a prototype system for diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, we show that two kinds of knowledge are essential for explanation generation: ...
